Darvaza
Darvaza is an international black metal project originating from Italy and Norway, formed in 2015 as a duo by two prominent figures in the underground black metal scene. The band embodies a raw, ritualistic approach to the genre, often described as "pure black metal in its original and uncompromised essence," with a deep, sinister atmosphere influenced by ritual ambient elements. Their lyrical themes revolve around Satanism, Occultism, and existential abomination, as reflected in their motto: "I am unclean, I am abominable, for I am Holy." Signed to the Italian label Terratur Possessions, Darvaza has cultivated a cult following for their orthodox, unyielding sound that prioritizes atmospheric depth over technical flash.
Darvaza was established in 2015 by:
Wraath (Björn Erik Holmedahl, also known as Luctus, W, or Afgrundsprofet): Vocals (2015–present). A Norwegian musician with ties to other extreme metal projects.
Omega (Gionata Potenti): All instruments (2015–present). An Italian multi-instrumentalist central to the band's core sound.
Darvaza's music is characterized by lo-fi production, hypnotic riffs, and incantatory vocals that evoke a sense of infernal descent. They avoid mainstream polish, drawing from second-wave black metal influences while incorporating subtle ambient layers for a trance-like quality. Active through 2025 with no announced hiatus, the band maintains a low profile, primarily engaging fans via Bandcamp and social media. Live shows are rare but intense, often featuring the expanded lineup for ritualistic performances. As of late 2025, they remain a staple in orthodox black metal circles, with growing recognition in European underground festivals.
