SETYØURSAILS is a German post-hardcore and metalcore band formed in 2017 in Cologne. The current lineup features vocalist Jules Mitch, guitarist Andre Alves, bassist Nicolai Hoch, and drummer Henrik Kellershohn. Since their debut, they have gained a growing following by addressing personal and social themes, particularly focusing on mental health and resilience. Their initial line-up included former bassist Dominic Ludwig and former drummer Dizzee Pascal. The band’s first album, Enough, released in November 2018, was a self-produced effort, initially intended to showcase their work and enable them to perform live shows.
Their follow-up album, Nightfall, marked their major-label debut under Napalm Records in January 2022 and showcased a more polished, professionally produced sound. For this album, they collaborated with producers Christoph Wieczorek and Julian Breucker at Sawdust Recordings, who helped refine and deepen their sound. Nightfall includes notable collaborations, such as the title track featuring Caliban's Andy Doerner, which dives into themes of personal struggle with mental health through lyrics that explore the tension between comfort in darkness and the fear of confronting it.
SETYØURSAILS also joined Annisokay as a supporting act in May on their 2022 European tour.
Before their next album, the group had a line-up shift, which introduced bassist Nicolai Hoch and drummer Henrik Kellershohn. The album, Bad Blood, was later released in April 2024. Bad Blood represented an evolution in the band's sound, introducing rock 'n' roll and pop elements alongside their signature style. According to Jules, the album reflects a new chapter for the band, one that emphasizes resilience and overcoming challenges. In creating Bad Blood, the production process was unique: Jules wrote vocal parts and collaborated remotely with producer Julian Breucker, allowing the instrumentals to develop from the vocal foundation rather than the other way around.
Jules has described the record as a liberating departure from themes centered solely on mental health struggles, aiming instead to showcase the band’s strength and motivation. With Bad Blood, SETYØURSAILS cements a stylistic shift that includes pop-inspired melodies, rock influences, and a more experimental approach to their sound, positioning them to continue evolving and surprising fans with future releases.
