J.B.O.
J.B.O. (short for James Blast Orchester) is a German comedy heavy metal band from Erlangen, Bavaria. The band was founded in 1989 by Vito C. and Hannes "G. Laber" Holzmann and is primarily known for parody versions of rock and pop songs. Since the early 2000s, J.B.O. have increasingly released original material while continuing to produce parody songs, which the band describe as "Blöedsinn", an intentionally altered spelling of the German word "Blödsinn" ("nonsense").
The band originally performed under the name James Blast Orchester. In June 1996, the name was shortened to J.B.O. following a legal dispute with German bandleader James Last, who objected to the similarity between the names.
J.B.O. were also involved in a dispute with the Patrizier brewery of Nuremberg. As a result, references to "Patrizier Bräu" in the band's lyrics were subsequently changed to "Pariser Bier" ("Parisian beer").
Founding members Schmitti and Holmer "a Bier" Graap left the band in 2000. In 2001 they were replaced by Ralph Bach and Wolfram Kellner. Prior to joining J.B.O., Kellner had been a member of the folk rock band Fiddler's Green. This background is referenced in the song "Arschloch und Spaß dabei", which includes a lyric stating that Wolfram had previously played folk music.
The Kitzmann brewery of Erlangen has collaborated with the band on promotional products and has been referenced in J.B.O.'s lyrics.
On 31 July 2004, the band marked its fifteenth anniversary with celebrations under the slogan "30 Halbe!", a phrase referring to thirty half-litre glasses of beer.
J.B.O. continue to perform live and tour regularly, particularly in Germany, Austria, Belgium, Luxembourg, Liechtenstein and Switzerland.
The stage name "G. Laber", used by Hannes Holzmann, is a pun on the German word "Gelaber", meaning "idle talk", "drivel" or "twaddle".
